UPCOMING EVENTS

Memory Enhancement Program
The JCC of the Greater Five Towns is offering “Use It Or Lose It! Memory Training and Enhancement,” beginning Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at 2:00 p.m., at the JCC, 207 Grove Avenue, Cedarhurst. Under the direction of Alan A. Mazurek, MD, a board certified neurologist at Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC, this program is a memory training and enhancement program. Dr. Mazurek has been involved in Alzheimer’s research and treatment for over twenty-five years. According to Dr. Mazurek, multiple studies and scientific research have confirmed the value of memory exercises in maintaining and enhancing memory.
Sessions are forming now. The fee is $25 per session and pre-registration is required by 2/25/10. Space is limited. For further information and/or to register please call the JCC office at 516-569-6733.


ONGOING EVENTS:

CALLING ALL SENIOR SONGBIRDS
The JCC Senior Choir meets in our 207 Grove Avenue Cedarhurst building, on Tuesday mornings, from September to June, at 11AM with Choir Master Zvi Klein. Songs are in English, Hebrew and Yiddish. Choir participation involves a voluntary contribution of $5.00 per session, a commitment to attend weekly practices (except holidays) and performance in community presentations. Men and women over age 60 are invited to participate. To arrange an audition please call Sheryl at the JCC at 569-6733 x 222. This program is funded in part by The William Petschek Fund through UJA Federation of NY.



Cedarhurst- Remember When - A weekly social day program for those with memory loss. This unique gathering provides social and intellectual activities through the use of art, music, current events, computers and other innovative cognitive therapies. Kosher lunch will be provided and door-to-door transportation is available on a limited basis. The fee is $40 per day and a sliding scale is available for participants with financial constraints. Held at Congregation Sons of Israel, 111 Irving Place, Woodmere

Cedarhurst-The JCC of the Greater Five Towns hosts a Cards and Friendship group from 1-3 PM.  Come alone or bring a friend for a fun afternoon at the JCC.  Enjoy meeting new people, good conversation and challenging games.  The program runs on a summer schedule.  For further information, please call Lisa Stern at 569-6733 x209.

Woodmere-The JCC of the Greater Five Towns hosts the Come Alive Program at Sons of Israel in Woodmere.  This program provides an opportunity for home bound older adults to participate in social, recreational & intellectual activities.  Kosher lunch will be provided and door-to-door transportation is available on a limited basis.  This program runs on a summer schedule. Cedarhurst-The JCC of the Greater Five Towns hosts every Tuesday a Parkinson's Support Group. The purpose of this group is to bring together Parkinsonians, spouses and their families in order to help them better understand the nature of the condition, gain confidence and join in community activities.  For further information, please contact Cathy Byrne at 569-6733 x220.

Woodmere-The JCC of the Greater Five Towns hosts Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) group on Wednesdays at Sons of Israel in Woodmere.  Our goal is to offer a safe haven where clients and family members feel accepted for who they are. For further information, please contact Lisa Barnett x210 or Chana Pfeifer x213 at 569-6733.
